This combo is the standard radiation meter setup for performing routine surveys for radiological contamination. It is also useful for surveying scrap metal for contamination, though we prefer a scintillation probe for that application. The Ludlum Model 3 is an extremely robust instrument that can take a lot of abuse in the field. The combo will include all pictured including at 3 foot C cable and check source.
Ludlum Model 3
This is an extremely versatile meter, that with proper care, will last decades. It is an industry standard radiation meter used today at nuclear stations, universities, and medical centers.
Why pay full price when we sell ours for almost half current retail price!
It operates on two “D” cells for approximately 2000 hours. The Ludlum Model 3 has adjustable high voltage to 1500 volts and includes external calibration controls. It can be used with GM probe or scintillators to assess a wide range of radioactivity from environmental to high radiation areas depending on what probe you use with it. Note that the scale on the meter varies with the probe selected, so if you need a particular scale, let us know.
You will need a Probe and a Cable to connect your meter to a probe. We do sell typical combos in our store ready to go. Search Products for “Combo”

Ludlum Model 44-9 Probe
The Ludlum Model 44-9 is a “Pancake” style GM Detector. This detector is sensitive to alpha, beta, and gamma radiation. Its size and shape provide easy handling for surveying or personnel monitoring. The detector is energy dependent, over-responding by a factor of 6 in the 60 keV to 100 kdV range when normalized to 137Cs.
● Application: Alpha, Beta, Gamma Survey, Sample Counting
● Detector: GM Pancake
● Active/Open Area (cm2): 15/12, Window (mg/cm2): 1.7 Mica
● Background: 60 cpm, Sensitivity: 3300 cpm/mR/hr
The Ludlum Model 44-9 Alpha Beta Gamma Radiation GM pancake type detector is arguably the most popular radiation detector used throughout the world. This detector is sensitive to alpha, beta and gamma radiation, is enclosed within a rugged metal enclosure, and is conveniently shaped and sized for checking contamination on people and objects. This detector operates between 850 to 1000 volts and is compatible with any Ludlum instrument capable of supplying 900 VDC and an input sensitivity of 30 mV or higher.
