Canberra Argos 5AB Alpha-Beta Personnel Monitor

The CANBERRA Argos-AB family of Whole Body Surface Contamination Monitors provides the ultimate user-friendly operation, with thorough and reliable detection of external contamination on personnel working in nuclear environments.

From the Manufacturer:

The CANBERRA Argos-AB family of Whole Body Surface Contamination Monitors provides the ultimate user-friendly operation, with thorough and reliable detection of external contamination on personnel working in nuclear environments.

The Argos-5AB features their most advanced gas flow detectors optimized for the best possible alpha and beta response (along with minimizing the gamma response). The detectors have been arranged in a configuration that minimizes dead space and provides optimal contour geometry and coverage for the occupant.

All Argos monitors use a sophisticated “fast following” background trending and release-limit algorithm to provide the best possible performance in a stable or varying radiation field.

Excellent detector protection, modularity of components, and extensive diagnostics result in direct reductions in maintenance, repair, and operations costs.

Canberra FASTSCAN 2250 High-Throughput Whole Body Counter

This unit has been purchased by CHP from a working environment.  Originally purchased in 2004, this unit has been under service contract with Canberra ever since.

See the latest QC Data in the photos.  It has been disassembled for shipment.  The computer and software did not transfer with the unit.  This allows the end user to get the latest version of the software and new computers for what is typically a $160K unit new.  Along with a stock photo, see the boxes containing the detectors with serial numbers and such.  Also included are the last set of QC’s run on the unit.

We estimate $47K for the latest software and complete work station.  The price quoted below assumes we get this up and running for you.  You may already have a licensed version of all or parts of that and can contract with the manufacturer for what you need.  We work on projects like this all the time, and can provide a turn key solution where we pay for all of this.  Just let us know what works for you.  If you can do the installation, you can save the cost of us having to contract out to have it done.

Fastscan whole body counter is designed to quickly and accurately monitor people for internal contamination of radionuclides with energies between 300 keV to 1.8 MeV. The FASTSCAN system uses large area sodium iodide detectors and CANBERRA’s Apex-InVivo™ and Genie™ software to achieve low minimum detectable activities with count times as fast as one minute. It is intended for use in power plants and other facilities where the possible contamination spectra are well known and uncomplicated.

Ludlum Model 329-32 Laundry Contamination Monitor

Laundry Contamination Monitor

We have one in stock for immediate delivery!

Features
  • Highly Automated System
  • Simultaneous Monitoring of Upper and Lower Surfaces
  • Lockable Caster Wheels
  • 32 Alpha and 32 Beta-Gamma Channels
  • Audible Alarm is Accompanied by Visual Indicator LEDs for Indicating Approximate Location of Contamination
  • Real-Time Performance Status LEDs
  • Pass-Through Tunnel Adjusts Up to 17.8 cm (7 in.) Height

The Ludlum Model 329-32 Laundry Contamination Monitor is intended for automatic monitoring of both alpha and beta-gamma contamination on clothing or other light articles presumed to be free of radioactivity, or within release or reuse limits. A motor-driven steel-mesh conveyor belt carries articles between two gas proportional detector arrays. An audible alarm will sound when contamination exceeds the given alarm setpoint. A LED array spanning the belt shows the approximate position of the alarm on the conveyor, and provides the operator with the status of the machine. A dual LCD shows the counts and the current operating conditions, such as conveyor speed and gas flow. A security-code protected 20-key keypad also allows the changing of alarm set points, operating parameters, and other system information. The entire system is mobile, with lockable casters to prevent unwanted movement of the monitor.

Each lower and upper detector array has 16 individual gas proportional detectors, providing 32 alpha channels and 32 beta-gamma channels for a total of 64 counting channels. A spare detector array (supplied with each system) allows for easy replacement, reducing down time. The detector arrays are staggered providing an even response across the conveyor. The usable detection width is 86.4 cm (34 in.) with an overall belt width of 91.4 cm (36 in.).

All three detectors (upper, lower, and spare) slide out of the conveyor bed for cleaning and repair. The electronics is microprocessor-based, and housed in two slide-out drawers. There are two alarm levels, each fully adjustable. The first alarm level (ALERT) can pause the conveyor, stop the conveyor, allow the conveyor to continue, or re-scan. Re-scan reverses the belt to clear the probe that caused the alert, and then passes the article through the monitor again. A master yellow alert lamp will light for the duration of any ALERT. The second alarm level (ALARM) can either stop the conveyor and light the red master lamp and audio, re-scan once, twice, always, or it may continue conveyor operation and latch all alarms. Fail detection features include high-voltage failure, low count, and high background. The high voltage, conveyor belt speed, and output gas flows are monitored by the central processor. Pressing the BACKGROUND UPDATE button manually enters the background mode. Automatic background updates allow updating after the conveyor has become free of articles.

Standard instrument features

  • Powerful computer system control on a dedicated ergonomic support arm with 2 GB (minimum) RAM and 80 GB hard disk (minimum), built in DVD R/W and EtherNet support.
  • Robust downloading sample changer mechanism with an electrostatic controller and a double light sealing shutter that allows the photo multiplier tube detectors to remain on for maximum stability even during sample changing.
  • Patented TR-LSC (Time-Resolved Liquid Scintillation Counting) is featured for high sensitivity, low background counting of LS samples. TR-LSC increases sample throughput and reduces cocktail consumption.
  • Multi-parameter with an effective resolution of 1/10 keV offers an extended dynamic quench range and provides mutli-parameter spectrum analysis to correct for luminescence, color quenching and background radiation
  • Live SpectrView automatic spectrum display aids in optimizing counting conditions and helps evaluate complex sample situations. It allows temporary regions on the spectrum screen and enables the operator to monitor the effect of AEC (Automatic Efficiency Control) while the sample is counting.
  • 133Ba low energy external standard source and tSIE (transformed Spectral Index of External standard) calculations eliminate the effects of vial glow, plastic wall and cocktail on the DPM results. The use of integral spectrum counts eliminates the need for repeat counting of external standard and negates the effect of isotope half-life on quench monitoring accuracy and precision. The 133Ba external standard is centered under the sample vial which eliminates the effects of volume variations and assures reproducible quench monitoring for the life of the instrument.
  • Positive sample identification provides protocol number, cassette number, sample number, and user-selectable printout and data file storage of the counting time and date for each sample.
  • Quick-Count sample loading for 15 independent protocols (with unlimited assays) provides unrestricted access to sample changer and protocol selection plugs. Sample batches are processed by simply activating the Quick-Count protocol plugs, thus minimizing any user programming.
  • Anti-jam recovery of the sample changer mechanism protects samples, vials and the counting system from damage if obstructions occur.
  • Automatic power-fail recovery restarts counting when power is restored and the instrument has reinitialized itself.
  • Date and time clock provides real time display and time-stamped printouts; battery supported
